MISSION

FABWE'S Mission to succeed

The mission of FABWE is for African black women to rise and shine confidently and successfully in having their voices heard and skills carved to build a healthier Africa. We need more black African women voices at the leadership tables they have long deserved. Being in the room is not enough, the space in the room needs to be accommodating for the value that the ‘Eagle’ brings to the table to be received well and acted upon.

ABOUT US

Seeing our Eagles Fly

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. The Foundation of African Black Women Eagles - FABWE emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for the voices of African Black women to be heard at leadership tables.

Established in 2021, we’re a non-profit organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. The foundation has 5 key pillars: Mentoring, Leadership, Problem Solving, Mental Health and Workplace Politics/Culture; that are the leading skills we believe the young female eagles need to rise and shine in a world where the black voice continues to be shut.Contact us to learn more and get involved.

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS

Raising awareness about mental health and tips on dealing with mental health illnesses

"Critical funding gaps are halting and disrupting crucial mental health services in Africa, as demand for these services rise amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a new World Health Organization (WHO) survey shows.

The survey of 28 African countries was undertaken as part of the first global examination of the devastating impact of COVID-19 on access to mental health services. It underscores the urgent need for increased funding. Of the countries responding in the African region, 37% reported that their COVID-19 mental health response plans are partially funded and a further 37% reported having no funds at all.

This comes as the COVID-19 pandemic increases demand for mental health services." (WHO October 2020)

With this initiative, our goal is to raise awareness on mental health issues and have guest speakers from Psychologists, Counsellors and Therapists come and give advice on how to deal with some of mental heal issues and where people can go to access these services in their respective countries.  Learn more about our work by getting in touch with our team today.

TESTIMONIALS

Innocentia_edited_edited.jpg

My name is Innocentia Tshikomba, a third-year student at the university of the Witwatersrand. Ms. Sibusiso Mdlongwa has been my mentor for 2 years now and I first got to know her through the Ernst and Young Nextgen Programme. She has been a very great mentor and I look up to her. She grew me mentally as well as emotionally. Her presence in my life has helped me keep focus on my education and to keep fighting most of my challenges that may try to hinder me from exceeding. She cares about her mentees, because she makes time to find out how I am coping and that means a lot to me. She became more than just a mentor but a parent to me.

Obakeng.jpg

"Meeting Busi during the onboarding week of my first professional job was the best thing that could have happened to me in 2020! What started off as a friendly encounter with a stranger soon turned into a very fruitful mentor-mentee relationship. Over the past year, Busi’s guidance has helped me successfully navigate the challenging transition from being a university student to a young professional. Busi was generous in sharing her  knowledge, experience, and other resources to help empower me and I appreciate how she has not only shown a keen interest in my development within my current role but my overall career development.
I am sincerely grateful to have Busi as my mentor and wholeheartedly recommend her service to anyone seeking a fruitful mentorship relationship!
